Liebster and More
I’m blogging on the beach. You must be thinking that I’m extremely boring ,or obsessive about my blog. But, this is something I haven’t done before. I’ve never lazed on the beach, with not a soul around, without a care in the world. I’m usually very active on the beach, I swim, I look for sea and sand crustaceans, animals, birds, insects, shells, plants etc. But this time, it’s different. I am in a bungalow in a resort by the Aegean Sea and there is a Zen-like peace all around. The only cries are those of the gulls, not of unruly children. Although the sparrows might steal your mid-morning snack, tourists won’t trample over you. While I the significant other loll around in the sunshine and occasional spats of rain my significant other is at a supposedly stimulating conference at the business end of the resort(if they have stunning views like I do, I wonder how many of them are paying attention!).
More on this later. As I had mentioned on my previous post, I was nominated for the Liebster Blog award by Gurgles and Woofs. To fulfil the conditions of the award, I’m nominating eleven other blogs. I think these blogs deserve more than an occasional like. They deserve to be followed, cherished and enjoyed.
So the nominees are:

- How many languages do you speak, read or write?
- Coffee or tea?
- If you could be a fictional character, who would you be and why? (stolen from Gurgles and Woofs)

The eleven questions, I presume, should be answered here.
1. My favourite book: Some of my bedside readers have been with me for over five decades, so it’s well nigh difficult to choose just one. If you consider both the Alice books to constitute one, then that is my favourite – especially The Annotated Alice (Martin Gardner’s introduction and notes).
2. Why do I blog: Because as a retired man I have time on my hands for the first time and have many things to say.
3. Which is my favourite post till date: Being a bilingual blogger, if I say সেই জোনাকিরা (Bengali), it wouldn’t mean much to the readers at large. In that case, the English blog that had given me pleasure is ‘Bengal, Banga, Bangla.’
4. Who inspired me to write: I would like to say that the way I was brought up in a suburban town in Bengal did.
5. What is my pet peeve: I really don’t see how this question matters but, if you really want to know, I’m pretty much put off by insincere efforts by any body at anything. So insincerity is my pet hate, if that matters at all.
6. Which is my wand arm: I’m a southpaw, since you want to know, in most matters and in the games I used to play but write with my right – if and when I have to in these days of easy computer access.
7. Which is my dream travel destination: Mesoamerica, I suppose. That’s another continent I’ve never been to and would like to see the Maya-Aztec-Inca ruins.
8. How many languages do I speak, read or write: English, Bengali (my mother tongue) and Hindi (which I do speak and read and do not venture to write).
9. Coffee or tea: I prefer coffee unless it’s class one aromatic Darjeeling.
10. If I could be a fictional character, who would I be and why: Peter Pan for I never wanted to grow up.
11. Which food item makes me a glutton: A medium-rare chateaubriand steak made of succulent beef.
